When you are expecting a new arrival, the list of essential equipment you need seems to be endless. This can put a strain on any family budget and you may be tempted to buy a used prams stroller in order to cut costs.  If you are buying from a family friend then this may be a good option but you may want to think twice about buying one from a stranger. If something goes wrong with the stroller you have no comeback as used prams purchases don't come with a warranty.

There are other problems in buying used baby equipment. You should never buy a used baby car seat for example as there is no way of knowing whether it has been involved in an auto accident. Even a seemingly small bump can cause a problem in a car seat so it just isn't worth the risk. Your baby deserves better.

If you do buy a used pram stroller, always buy a new mattress. The same goes for the cot or bed you buy. Your baby should never sleep on a second hand mattress. This is one of the ways to preventing cot death and a rule that is worth sticking to.

It is preferable to buy new baby prams strollers but sometimes people just cannot afford this expense. If you do buy a used model be sure to carry out some basic safety checks first.  These will involve checking that the brakes and the locking mechanisms all work.  The baby harness should also be in perfect working order. It goes without saying that you should give the entire system a good wash even if it looks clean before you put your baby into it.

Regardless of whether you buy a new or used baby prams stroller, you should always keep safety uppermost in your mind when traveling with your baby. Always apply the brakes when you stop even if you are holding the handle say at the side of the road.  If you have to put the rain cover on the pram remove it as soon as you can but definitely as soon as you go indoors as you do not want your baby overheating. Do not carry other children in the travel system unless it is a double or triple stroller.  Always make sure that the travel system is right for your kids based on their age and weight.
Do not over cover baby when taking her out for a stroll. Obviously you do not want her to catch cold but you don't want her overheating either. If it is sunny, use a hat and an umbrella or similar sun protection aid and never leave your baby in direct sunlight.  Following these simple safety tips will lead to you and your baby getting the most enjoyment possible from the baby prams stroller that you choose.
